    2009 Christmas Tree Shock

In December there can be a variety of temperatures ranging from what we would consider normal to extreme.  If the weather is consistently freezing or below and you are bringing a fresh cut Christmas tree inside, we highly recommend that you put the tree into a garage or other location (in water if a fresh cut was done) to gradually acclimate the tree to standard house temperatures (between 63 degrees and 68 degree).  It ideally will be in the garage for approximately 5 hours or overnight.  This allows a transition for the tree to reduce the shock that will occur.  The shock usually takes place 3-7 days after the tree has been brought inside where the tree will start to loose many needles, those which are typically towards the trunk.  Please remember to avoid using boiling water, or freezing water as this will not help the tree.
