Althea (Rose of Sharon)

 

Tall broad shrub, leaves are a pale yellow in the fall.  Leaves come out in late May and have large flowers generally in August. Can grow to 8 ft tall and 7 ft wide.  See flower colors below

Apache Plume

 

Native plant to the Rocky Mountain region will do well in full sun. Will grow to 3-5 ft tall and 3-5 ft wide. Has rose like white flowers and an interesting feathery seed head from summer to fall. Picture

 

 

Barberry

 

Bagatelle--Hardy dense foliage that will grow up to 18 inches tall and 2 ft wide. New foliage will be a light red turning darker throughout the summer. Does have thorns.

Bonanza Gold--Yellow and green leaves that will grow to 2 ft tall by 2 ft wide.  Does have thorns.

Crimson Pygmy--Low growing with new leaves in spring showing a bronze-red color maturing to a dark red in the fall. Will grow up to 2 ft tall and 3 ft wide.

Hellmond's Pillar--Upright form that can get to 4 ft by 3 ft.  Red to burgundy leaves.  Does have thorns.

Rose Glow--Leaves will have pink variegation on reddish purple leaves. Excellent for screening and will grow to approximately 4 ft tall and 4-5 ft wide. Does have thorns. Picture

 

 

Boxwood

 

Julia Jane--Only FULL sun boxwood for Colorado.  Slow grower that will get 4 ft tall and 4 ft wide.  Keeps its leaves in the winter and is deer and rabbit resistant. Picture

Korean--Deep green leaves with a rounded habit and needs winter protection from the sun.  Grows to 3 ft tall and wide.

Winter Gem--Dark green leaves and tends to hold its leaves better than the Korean variety.  Grows to 3 ft tall and wide.

Broom

 

Allgold--Grows up to 5 ft tall and will get 4 to 6 ft wide. Nice green foliage with a golden yellow flower, very fragrant.

Scotch--Most of this variety will grow 5 ft tall and wide with a lighter yellow flower than the Allgold. Picture

Buckthorn

 

Columnar--Grows up to 20 ft tall (in about 30 years) and will get 4 to 6 ft wide. Nice green foliage with red fruit in the fall.  The flower is a light greenish white. Picture

Fernleaf--Faster grower than the columnar variety but has fern like leaves.  Will grow to 10 ft tall and 8 ft wide.

Fineline--Columnar form of the fernleaf.  Will grow 10 ft tall and 4 ft wide.

 

 

Buffaloberry

 

Silver--Dense shrub that is native to the Rocky Mountain region. Excellent for attracting birds with its orange-red edible berries. Likes full sun but can adapt to part day sun and will grow to to a height of 8-12 ft tall and 8-10 ft wide.

 

 

Burning Bush

 

Dwarf--Produces a corky bark with a brilliant red-orange fall color. Spring leaves are a dark green and grow to approximately 4-6 ft tall and 6 ft wide. Will take part and full day sun, but can lose fall color change with a lack of sunlight. Picture

Standard--Similar to the dwarf version it has a corky bark and turns a brilliant orange-red in the fall. Will grow to approximately 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide. Can take part to full day sun, but can lose fall color with a lack of sunlight.

 

 

Butterfly Bush

 

Dwarf Varieties will stay around the 4 to 6 ft height and wide.  Slow to leaf out in the spring and can be affected by late frosts.  See below for varieties

Silver Fountain--Native and very hardy.  Many small lilac colored flowers with thin wispy branching.  Will get to 8 ft tall and 8 ft wide. Deer resistant.

 

 

Chokeberry

 

Autumn Magic--Hardy plant that will grow up to 10-12 ft tall and 10-15 ft wide. Produces small black persistent fruit in the late summer that the birds will enjoy. Fall color will turn a brownish-red to orange.

Brilliant Red--Has white flowers in early spring with a fantastic bright red fruit in late summer.  Nice reddish-orange fall color.  Will grow to 6 ft tall and 6 ft wide.

Glossy Black--Has white flowers in May followed by black persistent fruit. Leaves are a dark shiny green and turn a wonderful reddish-orange in the fall. Will grow up to 6 ft tall and 6 ft wide.

 

 

Chokecherry

 

Canada Red--Very fast grower and can easily reach 15 to 20 ft tall and 20 ft wide.  Often called Canada Red Cherry, it will produce fragrant white flowers in early spring and fruit.  The leaves will start out green and turn a burgundy color for a nice two tone look in the summer.  Nice fall color.  Does put of suckers in the ground up to 20 ft away. Native--Excellent shrub that will get to 15 ft tall and wide and has only green leaves until fall.  Fall color is spectacular with orange and yellow. Very hard and drought tolerant.

Cotoneaster

 

Coral Beauty--Nice shrub and will grow approximately 6 ft by 6 ft.  Dense mounding form that will have coral colored fruit in the fall.

Cranberry (Apiculata)--Low growing shrub with small white flowers. Will grow up to 5 ft tall and about 5 ft wide and has arching branches. Will do better in an area that is somewhat protected by a structure or other large shrubs and trees.

Hedge or Peking (lucidus)--Produces pink flowers and then black berries that will persist into the winter. Will grow up to 15 ft tall and 6 ft wide or more depending on how you prune it.  Fantastic fall color and is deer and rabbit resistant.

Tom Thumb--Low growing variety that needs to be shaded in the summer.  Will grow to 1 ft tall and 3 ft wide.

 

 

Currant

 

Alpine--Dense rounded shrub that will get 5 ft by 5 ft. Easy to prune and does well up to 9,000 ft elevation. Flower is greenish-yellow and not very noticeable.

Black--Nice shrub that has tart black edible fruit.  Will grow to 5 ft by 5 ft.

Red Lake--Excellent shrub that has good red fruit in the summer.  This will grow to about 5 ft by 5 ft.  Great for eating off the bush (tart) or for jam.

Yellow Flowering--Produces a yellow bloom in spring and will have a black fruit in the fall (for the birds). Flower is fairly fragrant. Will grow up to 6 ft tall and 6 ft wide. Very hardy and excellent for humming birds when they flower. Picture

 

 

Daphne

 

Carol Mackie--Wonderful fragrant flowers that will appear in early Spring. Leaves are variegated green with yellow edges. They will grow 2-3 ft tall and 3-5 ft wide, does better in a part shade.  Picture

Rock--Slow growing excellent shrub that can tolerate a compacted soil. May lose many of it's leaves the first year due to the transition to Colorado but has a fantastic pink flower.  Picture

 

 

Dogwood

 

Isanti--Tolerates moist areas and will grow to 6 ft tall and 6 ft wide. Excellent winter color with red twigs. Produces an abundance of white clusters of flowers in midsummer. Picture

Ivory Halo--Tolerates a variety of conditions from dry to moist. Will grow to about 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide. Has clusters of white flowers in midsummer and will tend to branch horizontally.

Red Twig--Larger dogwood that will grow 10 ft tall and 10 ft in width. Produces small white flowers in a cluster and will have small bluish fruit into the winter. Stems are red in the winter and provide a nice addition of winter color.

Yellow Twig--Larger dogwood that will easily grow to 10 ft tall and wide.  Fantastic winter color with bright yellow twigs to stand out in any landscape. Produces clusters of white flower and bluish fruit for the winter.

Variegated--Similar in stature to the Isanti dogwood, but have green variegated leaves with a whitish margin and red stems.

 

 

Elder

 

Adams--Great fruit for pies and jam and wine.  Very hardy and grows to 8 ft in height and width.  Best pollinated with York elder.-

Black Lace--Fantastic red leaf shrub that can give you a japanese maple look for a very hardy Colorado Shrub.  Grows to 8 ft tall and wide.

Golden--The most common elder in yards is this one. Large shrub that will get 8 ft tall and wide.  Once established the yellowish green leaves are wonder compliment to any landscape.

York--Largest fruiting  and most productive with fruit.  Best to cross pollinate with the Adams Elder.  Grows to 10 ft tall and 8 ft wide.

 

 

Ephedra

 

Blue Stem Joint Fir--Nice addition to any landscape, the branching is powdery-blue.  This plant has no noticeable leaves and does fantastic in dry sunny areas.  Takes 2-3 years in a landscape to really stand out.  Picture

Mormon Tea--Does well up to 8,000 ft elevation and is green instead of blue.  Same conditions and size as the Blue Stem.

 

 

Euonymus

 

Alatus (See burning bush)

Emerald Gaiety--Broadleaf evergreen meant for the shade in Colorado, tends to burn and die back in the winter if it gets south or west sun.  Foliage is green with white margins.  Grow to 3 ft tall and 5 ft wide.  Picture

Emerald n' Green--Growth habit is 2-3 ft tall and 4 ft wide.  Tends to be more mounding than the Emerald Gaiety.  The foliage is green with a yellow margin.  Broadleaf evergreen meant for the shade in Colorado, tends to burn and die back in the winter if it gets south or west sun.

Manhattan--Fantastic shrub for shade, does produce lots of little yellow-green flowers in June.  Grows to 6 ft tall and wide and is very pruneable.  Dark glossy green foliage.

Moonshadow--Amazing colored leaves with a green on the outside and a golden yellow in the center.  Loves the shade (north or east exposure) as it tends to burn in the winter sun.  Grows to 2 ft tall and 5 ft wide.

 

 

Forsythia

 

Arnold's Dwarf--Smaller variety that will get to 3 ft tall and wide.  Lighter yellow than the Gold Tide.  Flowers prior to having any foliage.

Gold Tide--Another smaller variety but will only get about 2 ft tall and 4-6 ft wide.  A golden yellow flower that arrives prior to the foliage.

Fiesta--A two toned leaf of green and yellow.  This variety stays 2-3 ft tall and wide.  This one is great for texture in the landscape.

Kumson--A two toned leaf of green and yellow.  Larger variety that can get 6-8 ft tall and wide.  This one is great for texture in the landscape.

Northern Sun--Larger shrub with a bright yellow flower.  Can get to 8 ft tall and wide.

 

 

Holly

 

Beri Magic--All hollies are shade plants in Colorado, this variety has blue-green foliage and contains both the male and female plant in the same container.  Grows to 4 ft tall and 4 ft wide.  Bright red berries and will keep the foliage through most Colorado winters.

Blue Boy--Loves shade especially in the winter, the foliage is green and is needed to pollinate the Blue Girl holly if you want berries.  Grows to 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide and has no berries.

Blue Girl--Needs shade and the Blue Boy holly in order to produce the gorgeous red berries for the winter color.  Grows to 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide.

Oregon Grape--Large holly at 6 ft tall and wide and loves shade in the winter.  Foliage turns bronze, red and orange for the winter months with a yellow flower in the spring.

Oregon Grape Compact--Grows to 3 ft tall and wide and has bronze,  red and orange foliage in the winter months.  Shade plant as well, and has nice yellow flowers in the spring.

 

 

Honeysuckle

 

Arnold's Red--Great for attracting birds, produces bright red berries that looks great with the bluish-green leaves. Will grow to 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide and can tolerate part to full sun.

Mini-Globe--Compact bush that will get to 3 ft tall and wide.  The berries are red and yellow leaves in the fall.

Tiny Trumpet--Deer resistant variety that will grow up to 9,000 ft elevation.  Arching branches as the shrub gets taller.  The flower is a nice pink/blue color.

 

 

Hydrangea

 

Annabelle--This grandiflora has large green leaves and flower heads that have white clumps of flowers. Grows up to 4 ft tall and 4 ft wide.

Endless Summer--Nice blue flowers (turn pink if you do not put acidic fertilizer on them in Colorado).  This variety will get roughly 4 ft tall and wide and needs to be planted on a north or east facing area near a foundation.

PeeGee--Fantastic white clusters of flowers in mid-summer when planted on the north or east side of a house.  Large shrub that will grow up to 10 ft tall and wide.

 

 

Lilac

 

Dwarf Varieties--Will grow up to 6 ft tall and wide. Plants are considered deer resistant but many times the flowers will be eaten off.  See varieties below.

Dwarf Korean--Pale lilac colored flowers and blooms early.  Good up to 7,500 ft elevation.

Miss Kim--Similar to the Dwarf Korean but has a smaller leaf.  Flower is a pale lilac color and should grow to 7,000 ft elevation.

Tinkerbelle--Same as the Miss Kim but with a nice pink flower.

Standard Varieties

Albert F Holden--Grows to 10 ft tall and wide.  Has a flower that is violet in color.

Charles Joly--Fantastic magenta-purple flower and will grow up to 10 ft tall and wide.

Chinese--Late blooming pink lilac that grows 10 ft tall and 8 ft wide.

Common Purple--Largest lilac can grow up to 15 ft tall and wide.  Nice purple flowers with an amazing fragrance.

Common White--Largest white lilac same size as the Common Purple but has NO fragrance.

Donald Wyman--Blooms later than the Common Purple and has a reddish-purple flower.  Will grow to 8 ft tall and wide.

Monge--Amazing dark purple flowers with a nice aroma.  Will grow up to 8 ft tall and wide.

Mt Baker--Very nice white flowering lilac with a slight fragrance.  Will grow 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide.

Pocohantas--Fantastic reddish-purple flowers with a sweet fragrance.  Will grow 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide.

Sensation--Only purple lilac that has a white center.  However his flower has no fragrance.  Will grow to 8 ft tall and wide.

 

 

Maple

 

Dwarf Amur--Leaves turn from green to scarlet in the fall. Will grow up to 6 ft tall and 6  ft wide.

 

 

Mockorange

 

Blizzard--Upright smaller variety that will grow to 5 ft tall and 4 ft wide.  Nice fragrant white flowers.

Minnesota Snowflake Mini--Dwarf variety that get 4 ft tall and 4 ft wide, Prolific white blooms.

 

 

Mtn Mahogany

 

Curl Leaf--Native plant with small curled leaves that produces seeds around September. Grows to 10 ft tall and 6-8 ft wide.

True--Has a furrowed bark and small white flowers. Will grow to 20 ft tall and 10-15 ft wide.

 

 

Ninebark

 

Center Glow--Similar to the Diablo variety as it get 9 ft tall and wide.  The leaves are red and yellow but the red is brighter in the fall.  Blooms white in the summer and in full sun will tend to have leaf scorch (looks like the leaf is dying) for the first couple of years until the roots get established.

Coppertina--Same as the Center Glow but will be smaller typically around 6 ft tall and wide.  The leaf will have a more copper look in the summer.

Dart's Gold--Grows to 4 ft tall and 4 ft wide, with bright yellow leaves with dense branching. The foliage will tend to burn in the summer in Colorado for the first couple of years until the plants get established.

Diablo--Great shrub for Colorado once it gets established in your landscape.  It will grow 9 ft tall and wide and has fantastic exfoliating branches for winter texture.  The leaf is reddish purple and gets a creamy white flower and red clusters. The foliage will tend to burn in the summer in Colorado for the first couple of years until the plants get established.

Dwarf--Green foliage shrub that has an amazing exfoliating bark for winter texture.  At maturity it will grow to 4 ft tall and wide.

Summerwine--Same as Center Glow and Diablo except the new foliage is a little more red and only grows to about 6 ft tall.  The foliage will tend to burn in the summer in Colorado for the first couple of years until the plants get established.

 

 

Peashrub

 

Pygmy--Nice variety will only get 4 ft tall and wide.  The foliage smaller and kind of feathery and is very drought tolerant.

Siberian--Upright plant with green leaves and small yellow pea-like flowers in mid to late May. Grows to 8 ft tall and 6 ft wide.  Extremely hardy and has small thorns behind the foliage.   

Treeforms--Weeping Siberian same as Siberian but made to look like a weeping tree.

 

 

Potentilla

 

Great native shrub for Colorado that only gets 3 ft tall on average and 3 ft wide. Very drought tolerant and do like minimal pruning to keep a full shape.  They love full sun and minimal water.  Below is a list of potentilla we typically have in stock.  **Please not the pink and red flowers will be white or yellow in the middle of Colorado's summer**

Abbottswood--White flowers.

Dakota Sunspot--Bright yellow, prolific flowering.

Gold Drop--Golden yellow flowers.

Gold Finger--Bright yellow flowers.  Picture

Jackmanii--Large yellow flowers. 4 ft tall and wide.  Picture

Katherine Dykes--Pale yellow flowers.

Mc Kay's--Bright white flowers.  Picture

Mango Tango--Orange and yellow tinged flowers.  Picture

Pink Beauty--Pink flowers.

Red Ace or Sunset--Reddish yellow flowers.

 

 

Privet

 

Cheyenne--Fast growing hedge shrub.  Small green leaf with black fruit.  Prune often to prevent fruit. Can be kept to 3 ft tall and wide easily.

Golden Vicary--Larger privet that tends to keep its foliage in the winter.  The newer foliage in the spring is yellow turning to green and in the fall it turns maroon to brown.  Can grow up to 8 ft tall and wide.

Lodense--Smaller shrub that will stay 2 to 3 ft tall and wide.  Nice green foliage.

New Mexico--Xeric plant that can grow 10 ft tall and 8 ft wide.

 

 

Prunus  (Sandcherry, Plum)

 

Double Flowering Plum (Rose Tree of China)--Hardy large shrub that will grow to 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide. Leaves will start green and in the fall they turn bronzish. In May it produces double pink flowers.  Picture

Nanking Cherry--At maturity will grow to 10 ft tall and 15 ft wide. The foliage will start light green and in the fall turn dark green. In May small white flowers with hints of pink are produced followed by small red fruit. (Excellent to attract birds or make jelly).

Pawnee Buttes--Native sandcherry that will grow to 2 ft tall and 6-8 ft wide. leaves are a silver green and has small white-pink flowers in the spring.  Picture

Pink Flowering Almond--Great shrub that is slow growing but has amazing double pink flowers going up the branching.  Will grow to 6 ft tall and 6 ft wide, slowly. Picture

Purple Leaf Sandcherry (Cistena)--Wonderful shrub that will grow to 8 ft tall and 6 ft wide. In the spring and fall the leaves are a nice red-purple which adds a nice contrast in any yard. In the spring has small fragrant pink flowers. Picture

Western Sandcherry--Very hardy shrub that will grow to 6 ft tall and 6 ft wide. Leaves are silvery green in the spring and purple in the fall. In May produces small white flowers and fruit in July and August.  Picture

 

 

Pyracantha

 

Gnome--Excellent shrub for a north or east side of a house. Thorny deciduous evergreen. Will grow up to 6 ft tall and 4-6 ft wide.

Yukon Belle--Deciduous evergreen good for a north or east side of a house. Produces many small orangish-red fruit in midsummer that will hold on for great winter color.

 

 

Quince

 

Texas Scarlet--Orange -red flowers that grows in a mounding shape naturally.  Has a few thorns and sometimes produces edible fruit.  It grows to 4 ft tall and 6 ft wide.

 

 

Rabbitbrush

 

Dwarf--Native plant that will get about one foot tall and two foot wide. Can be either blue or green.

Standard (blue or green)--Native plant that does very well. The leaves are thin and long with a silvery tint. In late summer it produces small yellow flowers and will grow to 4 ft tall and 4 ft wide. Once established it is drought tolerant.

 

 

Hardy Azalea

 

Northern Lights--Flowers with light to deep pink color and dark green leaves. At maturity it will grow to 5 ft tall and 6 ft wide and prefers half day shade.

Tri-Color Lights--Flowers are white with a pink tinge and a yellow center. At maturity it will grow to 5 ft tall and 6 ft wide and prefers half day shade preferably the afternoon.

 

Sage

 

Russian--Gets 3 to 5 ft tall and wide.  Considered a perennial.  Nice fragrant blue flowers in July to September.

Tall Western--Native tall sage that is very drought tolerant.  Can grow to 6 ft tall and 6 ft wide with silvery-gray foliage. Picture

 

 

Serviceberry

 

Autumn Brilliance--At maturity the height will be approximately 20 ft and the width will be 10-12 ft. Growth habit is rounded and will have white blooms in the spring. Produces edible small purplish-black fruit.

Shadblow--In the Spring the shrub form has small white flowers turning into red, edible fruit. In the fall the green leaves will turn reddish-orange. At maturity will grow to 18 ft tall and 10-12 ft wide.

Saskatoon--Native variety at maturity will grow to 10 ft tall and 6-8 ft wide. Produces many white flowers, and followed by edible bluish fruit. Fall color is a yellow-orange color.

 

 

Smokebush

 

Purple--Produces dark green rounded leaves and has an airy flower in summer that looks like a pink smoke. At maturity it the Denver area will grow to 3 ft tall and 3  ft wide. Must be in a protected area and die-back almost a sure thing.  Picture

 

 

Snowberry

 

Hancock (Coralberry)--Grows to 3 ft tall and 6 ft wide.  In the fall the fruit is reddish-pink.

Red--Also known as the Indian Current Coralberry it has gray-green leaves with a light pink flower. Will grow up to 2 ft tall and 5 ft wide.

White--Nice green leaves into fall and produces small pink flowers in early summer. Produces large white berries and is animal resistant.

 

 

Spirea

 

Common shrub in Colorado landscape and has many varieties and colors.  The general height and width for most are 3 ft tall and 3 ft wide.  See varieties below.

Sumac

 

Gro-Low--Does very well in full sun. At maturity it will grow to 3 ft tall and 8 ft wide and has small fragrant flowers in the spring. Wonderful fall color of scarlet to orange.

Smooth--Hardy in Colorado. The leaves are green in the spring turning red, orange, and purple in the fall. It also produces green fruit in the summer turning scarlet red in the fall. Excellent to attract birds and grows to 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide

Smooth, Cutleaf--Does very well in Colorado and will grow to 7 ft tall and 7 ft wide. The leaves turn bright red, orange, and purple in the fall. In summer small green fruit is produced and turns scarlet in the fall.

Staghorn--Fantastic fall color on this large shrub (small tree).  Can grow to 20 ft tall and wide.  The foliage is green and turns a glowing red and orange in the fall and the branches are covered in a velvet hair.  Does spread to other areas.  Picture

Staghorn, Cutleaf--Wonderful large shrub in Colorado that likes to spread. At maturity it will be 10 ft tall and 12-15 ft wide. The leaves are feathery and a bright green in the spring and orange to red in the fall. It does produce crimson berries in the fall and the branches are covered in a velvet hair.

Tiger Eyes--A newer variety of Sumac that does not spread and has a wonderful chartreuse green new foliage, changing to a yellow.  The fall color is a bright orange-red-yellow combination.  Grows to approximately 5 ft tall and wide.

Three Leaf--Great shrub that grows around 3-6 ft tall and 4 ft wide. Produces small yellow flowers and small leaves. The leaves will change from green to scarlet, yellow and orange in the fall.  Picture

 

 

Viburnum

 

Alfredo (Dwf American Cranberry)--Dense and rounded shrub that will grow to 6 ft tall and 6 ft wide. The leaves will change from green to a beautiful red in the fall. Produces small scarlet colored fruit.

Alleghany--At maturity will grow to 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide. The leaves are dark green and have a yellow brown color in the fall. Produces brilliant red fruit in the spring which turns black in the fall.

Arrowwood--Large upright shrub that will grow to 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide. Produces white flowers in June followed by edible bluish-black berries. Great to attract birds. the leaves will turn from a dark green to purplish-red in the fall.

Compact European (Cranberry)--At maturity grows to about 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide and has glossy green leaves. Produces small scarlet colored fruit which will attract birds through the winter months.

Korean Spice (carlesii)--Wonderful shrub that has small white flowers with a unique spicy fragrance.  Smaller than some viburnums at 8 ft tall and wide.  Dark glossy green foliage that will add variety to your landscape.  Picture

Mohican--Smaller viburnum that will grow to 6 ft tall and 7 ft wide. In May many small white flowers are produced which are followed by orange red fruit in July. The fruit will turn black in the fall. Excellent fall foliage which is purple bronze.

Nannyberry (lentago)--Very large shrub will get to 18 ft tall and 10 ft wide. The shiny green leaves turn purplish red in the fall. The fruit which follows the white flowers is bluish black and will persist into the winter (great for birds).

Snowball--Wonderful large shrub that produces spectacular clusters of white flowers in May. At maturity it will grow to 12 ft tall and 12 ft wide with nice green foliage. Picture

Wayfaring (lantana)--Great border plant that has dark leathery green leaves in the spring and summer, turning purplish red in the fall. Wildlife enjoy this shrub in the summer due to the red fruit which is preceded by creamy white flowers in May or June. Grows to 8 ft tall and 6 ft wide.

Wentworth (American Cranberry)--Large Viburnum that will grow to 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide. The leaves will turn from green in the spring to red in the fall. The fruit which is large and red makes excellent jelly or preserves.  Picture

Watanabei--Only viburnum for shade, does not handle afternoon sun in Colorado well.  Can flower off an on all summer long, with individual white flowers.

 

 

Weigela

 

Carnival--Grows to 4 ft tall and 4 ft wide with a multi-colored flower of white, pink and red.  Blooms longer than many other varieties.

Midnight Wine--Low mounding variety that will get 1 ft tall and 2 ft wide.  The foliage is a burgundy and has a deep pink flower.

Red Prince--Produces very nice red flowers and has a arched branching structure. At maturity it will grow to 6 ft tall and 5 ft wide.

Tango--Grows to 3 ft tall and wide that has a fantastic purple flower.  The flowers are red with a  yellow middle.

Wine and Roses--Proven Winner variety that will grow to 4 ft tall and 3 ft wide.  The rosy pink flower contrasts nicely with the purple foliage.

 

 

Willow

 

Dwarf Arctic--Great shrub with a bluish tint to the leaves. Will grow up to 8 ft tall and 8 ft wide. Spreads very well and works great as a border plant (not as tolerant of water as the pussy willow).

Pussy Willow--Slender upright branching variety at maturity will grow to 15 ft tall and 15 ft wide. Excellent in moist areas and has gray-green foliage.

 

 

Yucca

 

Adams Needle (filimentosa)--Spiny leaves form large clusters. Produces a flower that is cream white in color on top of a tall spike in midsummer. At maturity it will grow to 3 ft tall and 3 ft wide.

Golden Sword--Fantastic foliage makes this a must in a Colorado landscape.  Grows to 4 ft tall and wide (slowly) and has yellow needle shaped foliage with a white stripes.

Margaritaville---A little different than Golden Sword in color only.  Not very hardy in Colorado. It has yellow with light green needle like foliage.
