Fir Tree

Fir

Concolor (white fir)--Beautiful tree with short thick bluish green needles. Deer resistant and likes dry areas. Can be seen growing native in the mountains of Colorado. Will grow to 50 ft tall and 20-25 ft wide. Picture

Pine

Austrian--Excellent pine that does very well in dry areas. At maturity will grow up to 40 ft tall and 30 ft wide. Not recommended if deer are your neighbors. Picture  

Bosnian--Good pine that has a somewhat upright growing pattern. Will grow up to 15 ft tall and 10 ft wide, does well in full sun. Excellent green color. Not deer resistant.

Bristlecone--Beautiful native tree that is deer resistant. At maturity will grow to 40 ft tall and 25-30 ft wide. Needles are soft and green with a silvery-white specks. Slow growing.  Picture.   

Limber Vanderwolf Pyramidal--Soft long bluish needles with a dense pyramidal form.  It will grow to 25 ft tall and 15 ft wide.  Is considered deer resistant and will grow to 6,000 ft elevation. Picture

Mugho, Mops--Low growing mugho that will grow up to 2 ft tall and 2 ft wide. Has dark green needles. Likes dry areas and needs no pruning. Picture

Mugho, Slowmound--Similar to the Mops, but will grow to 3 ft tall and 3 ft wide. Very slow grower. Picture

Mugho, Tannenbaum--Can grow to 9 ft in height and 6 ft wide. Has a compact pyramidal shape and can take full sun exposure. Picture

Pinyon--Wonderful native tree that is deer resistant. Grows to 20-25 ft tall and 15-20 ft wide. Slow growing pine that likes dry areas. Picture

Ponderosa--At maturity will grow to 60 ft tall and 35 ft wide. Needles are a light green to yellowish color and are on open spreading branches. Bark tends to be red to dark brown as tree matures. Picture

Scotch--Nice evergreen tree that will grow to 20 ft wide and 40 ft tall.  Bark will turn orangish to add color to any landscape. Picture.

Spruce

Alberta Dwarf--Slow growing conical shaped evergreen. At maturity it will be 6 ft tall and 3-4 ft wide, however, this will only grow up to 1-2 inches per year. Must be grown in a well protected area on the north or east side.  Picture

Alberta Dwarf Rainbow's End--Similar to Alberta variety except in the Summer a second set of needles come and they are a nice yellow for a fantastic two tone tree.  Picture

Baby Blue Eyes--Dwarf upright spruce that will grow to 15 ft tall and wide.  Colors in blue vary on the tree but will handle a full sun environment and has a naturally conical shape.  Will grow to 8,000 ft elevation.  Picture

Blue Totem (fastigiata)--Upright columnar spruce that will grow to 12 ft tall and 6-8 ft wide. New growth is an intense blue, fading to a darker blue as the growth matures.

Colorado Blue or Green--Spectacular spruce that does very well in Colorado. Can tolerate more moisture than most pine trees. At maturity will grow up to 60 ft tall and 25 ft wide. Comes in many shades of blue and green. Deer resistant.  Picture

Cuppressina-This great columnar spruce has softer green needles.  Ideal for tight locations will grow to roughly 6-8’ wide and 20-25’ tall..  Picture     

Globosa--Grows to 3 ft tall and 4 ft wide. Tends to have a flat top and silver-blue needles and no central leader.  Picture

Montgomery--Grows to 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide, and has a central leader unlike the Globosa variety. Has beautiful silver-blue needles.  Picture

St. Mary's Broom--Great small blue colored spruce that will grow to 2 ft tall and 2 ft wide.  Picture

Weeping Norway--Slow growing upright spruce with a weeping form as it  grows.  Can handle full sun at higher elevations 7500’ and up.  Grows to roughly 10’ tall and 6-8’ wide.  Picture

Arborvitae

Emerald Green (Smargold)--Softer than a juniper with fan like branching with gold green needles.  This variety will grow to 15 ft tall and 4 ft wide very slowly.  Needs to be protected from winter sun and is not deer resistant.  Picture

Hetzi Midget--Dwarf rounded variety that will grow to 3 ft tall by 3 ft wide.  Needs to be protected from winter sun and is not deer resistant.  Picture

Spreading Junipers

Blue Chip--Blue foliage with an arching habit that turns purple in the winter.  Grows to 12" tall and 6 ft wide. Picture

Blue Star--Blue foliage, softer than a normal juniper, slightly mounded and a slow creeper.  Likes north or east exposure.  Picture

Buffalo--Low spreading form with green foliage throughout the year.  Will grow up to 18" tall and 8 ft wide. Picture

Calgary Carpet (Sierra Spreader)--Similar to the Buffalo but will stay a little smaller in width only getting to 6 ft wide. Picture

Old Gold– Excellent for color year round with outside foliage being a bright yellow with a green interior of the juniper.  Can grow to 4 ft tall and 6 ft wide.  Gold Coast  is slightly smaller by 20%.  Picture

Sea Green--Larger juniper that will get up to 6 ft tall and 8 ft wide.  Nice green with arching branches. Picture

Wiltoni (Blue Rug)--Low growing silver blue foliage that turns purple in the winter.  Grow to 6" tall and 8 ft wide.  Picture

Upright Junipers

Blue Point--Pyramidal blue upright juniper that will grow to 10 tall and 8 ft wide. Picture.

Cologreen--Broad conical shape as it matures with light greenish-gray color.  Grows to 18 ft tall and 8 ft wide. Picture

Medora--Wonderful variety that has gray-green foliage with a columnar shape maturing in size to 10 ft tall and 4 ft wide. Picture

Spartan- (or Spearmint) -Standard upright juniper that will have a conical shape and a nice green foliage.  Grows to 15 ft tall and 5 ft wide.  Picture

Topiary--Call for shapes and availability varies by season, typical would be Spiral, Pom-Pom or 2 tier.

Yew

Emerald Spreader--Compact form with soft dark green needles that can produce bright red fruit (not edible).  will grow to 3 ft tall and 8 ft wide.  Must be planted in a well protected location with very little winter or summer sun.. Picture

Hicks--Upright variety that will get to 8 ft tall and 4 ft wide. Must be planted in a well protected location with very little winter or summer sun. Picture.
